The training “The ABC of SD & how to grow sustainable management competencies?” – DONE!

As part of the project “Education for Sustainable Development: Synergy of Competences for the Recovery of Ukraine” (101178414 – SUSTED), a five-day training session was held for academic staff at Ukrainian higher education institutions, focusing on the mechanisms and tools for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in the educational process. The aim of the training was to transfer the knowledge and experience gained by project team members during internships at foreign HEIs (The Hague University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands), Lubelska Akademia WSEI (Poland)), as well as to disseminate information among academic staff, which will enable the further effective implementation of sustainable management methodologies across various areas of university activity (educational, research, innovation, administrative, etc.).

The training program is designed to provide participants with a systematic understanding of the SDGs, ranging from the evolution of the conceptual foundations of sustainability theory to practical and pedagogical methods for integrating sustainable management ideas into the educational process through the active involvement of stakeholders, the improvement of educational programs and curricula, the development of institutional support, and the design and application of effective KPIs.

Nearly 150 participants representing various higher education institutions in Ukraine took part in the training, demonstrating the value and practical significance of this educational and research project, which resulted in the acquisition of the following competencies:

  • developing and deepening the critical internationalization of higher education institutions;
  • creating a map of university stakeholders;
  • the development and implementation of strategic documents regarding the integration of the SDGs into the activities of higher education institutions;
  • measuring and reporting on progress toward achieving the SDGs.

The results of solving practical case studies within the scope of the training’s topics, using the examples of the participating higher education institutions, are of particular value to the participants.
